Here is what I am doing: 1. uninstall 0.5.0. I notice that miktex and aspell are still there and I removed them through add/remove program. c:\aspell, texmf, localtexmf are still there so I manully remove them as well. There is nothing left under c:\document and settings\myusername\local settings\application data. Does not check registry. Hopefully this machine is clean now. Question: If lyx installs miktex/aspell, should it be responsible for removing them? I think an option during uninstall should suffice. 2. download 0.5.1, use all default settings, even for miktex. During configuration, I am not asked to install additional packages. This is different from yesterday. I guess miktex is not fully uninstalled! Question: Will there be compatibility problem with the embedded aspell and the online dictionary (may have newer version)? 3. lyx starts fine. (Again different from yesterday, so problem solved) view pdf of welcome to lyx goes fine. Spell checking is OK. Problem: beamer.layout is obsolete since it does not have subtitle environment. Problem: The acrobat reader icon on the toolbar excutes buffer-export pdf. Would it better be buffer-view pdf2? Afterall, it looks strange if you get no response after clicking an icon. Problem: when I compile a beamer file, and pgf is not there, miktex does not fetch the package automatically (The option is on). I think this is still related to the uninstall problem of miktex. After I refresh the package list, the problem solved. Conclusion: program files\lyx is working. Miktex acts strangely because of incomplete uninstallation.
