The LaTeX command for umlaut is \"{o}. You can enter this by way of entering
Can you enter an umlaut by:
1: Clicking on the red TEX button
2: typing   \"{o}
3: Clicking on the new red button in your text labelled "ERT"

More such commands from http://www.agu.org/meetings/mtabsLTX.html

   Backwards (grave) accent \`{x} tout \`{a} vous = tout à vous
   Forward (acute) accent      \'{x}         Gonzal\'{e}z = Gonzaléz
   Caret symbol                \^{x}         \`{a} bient\^{o} = à bientô
   Dieresis (umlaut)           \"{x}         f\"{u}r = für
   Tilde                       \~{x}         se\~{n}or = señor
