Dear list,

I spent several boring hours installing mingw, tetex (most
time-consuming), perl, python, and then lyx/win. The result is a much
better windows version of lyx than before. I am grateful that I can
finally edit my lyx files on both platforms.

However, needless to say, the installation process is too long, if not
too complicated, to be enjoyable. Is there any particular reason

1. why lyx/win does not use cygwin to provide shell/tetex/per/python?
Choosing some packages from cygwin is much easier to install several
components separately.

2. If cygwin can not be used, can we use just perl or python?
Afterall, both languages are powerful and one can supposedly do
whatever another language can do.

Thanks.
Bo
