So, Derek, the problem seems to be coming from your LaTeX distribution. Usually, it is very difficult to correct problems coming from upgrades of operating systems. Many experts advice to do always a clean installation of the operation system. Unfortunately, I can not help you further, but I hope other people can. Good luck! Paul
