I think that the point is that we try and represent on-screen what LaTeX will produce on paper. LaTeX ignores multiple spaces. It does not ignore a space before a '.'. There is a utility 'chktex' that you should use for this sort of thing. See Edit->Check TeX. The item will be enabled if LyX can find the tool. -- Angus
