Rob,

Many thanks, maths fonts installed and another hurdle surmounted. The right pointing arrow is still not rendered on LyX, but it appears OK frm View -> DVI.

There are some issues with the Qt port to Windows. Certain symbols don't display correctly at certain resolutions, and I think the right arrow is one of them. You can play around with Edit -> Preferences -> Screen fonts -> Zoom % and maybe get them to display.

Alternatively (and depending on how fast your processor is), you can turn on instant preview (Edit -> Preferences -> Graphics -> Instant preview), which will render your formulas as DVI output in the LyX window, on the fly. There's help for getting instant preview to work with XP on the LyX Wiki (http://wiki.lyx.org/pmwiki.php/LyX/InstantPreview). You may need to install some more software.

Many thanks for this. I tried the Instant Preview, but can't see that anything is changed by it.

I tried Lyx because I was looking for a tool for documenting a package and wanted to inlude some math in the document, I just about have the math part done, after too much playing around. I'm hoping that the rest will be smoother sailing.

I have learned a little LaTeX, which I didn't really wish to. Overall, in spite of the help from people on the list, I get the feeling that LyX is a great tool which is not quite ready for prime time.

Thanks again.
