I need the figures in PNG, because the book project might need to move to 
DocBook/XML in CVS, and here PNG is the standard format from which different 
version are build as PDF, Palm html etc.

Me to. I keep the book in its own directory (with graphics in a subdirectory). 
The problem is if I need to move this directory (with bibtex, graphics etc) 
to an other machine or directory. I can't se a way to avoid problems here, 
thats why I am asking.
