Beginner Question: Printing in Mac OS X

With apologies for a question that may have been answered elsewhere....

I've installed LyX for Mac OS X along with teTex, Ghostscript, 
ImageMagic, iconv, CM tools

AND I've set up Gimp-print with EPS Ghostscript

AND in LyX preferences I tried to set the printer to my Printer by 
typing in the box (Deskjet_845C-1)

AND

No go: The printer icon is grayed and I can neither print nor preview 
any of my documents.

Any advice or where to start much appreciated. Yes I did check the 
18james website and the FAQ.
