Problem with fonts

Dear All

I have finally installed Linux on my machine (Mandrake 9.2) and I have 
also installed LyX. (I wish I had installed Linux ages before, but I was 
a bit incredulous.) Unfortunately, the mathematical symbols appear as 
their LaTeX code. I am sure that it is a problem caused by some fonts 
missing. Could somebody here please give some guidance to this novice 
Linux user?
