Just to be confusing, you can still use natbib if you write the bibliography inside LyX. See the lyx file attached to an earlier mail in this thread. What you loose by not using bibtex, however, is the ability to use bibtex style files to format the appearence of both the citation and the reference. You must do this formatting 'by hand', modifying the reference within LyX and modifying the appearence of the citation by passing additional options to natbib. This latter will require you to hack (one line of) the exported latex file. -- Angus
