Thanks guys :)!

I needed to specify the applications to preview dvi, ps, pdf - which
I did as Oliver Margraf suggested in his mail (Edit --> Preferences?
(Einstellungen) --> file format? (Dateiformate) and then "open -a
Preview" or another programme).

At least I found a way to view my file - although I don't think that
e.g. the programme "Preview" is able to refresh the view. I have an
ghostview installation which runs under X11. Does anybody by any
chance know, whether and how I can configure LyX to use a
X11-application for previewing files?

Dunno, but don't see why not. Maybe you need to run a unix emulation layer for Win32 to be able to execute it? No idea at all.

I doubt that would do the job, since I'm not running a windows but mac os x ;)

Can you run the application from a windows console?. Do you use the full path to the application?

No, I don't use the full path. I tried it, but it didn't work (open -a stuff workedb but not for ghostview, which I have only installed as x11-programme - meaning it doesn't run natively under mac os x, but needs an x11-installation as some sort of "translator"). I also tried just entering "ghostview", but it didn't work either, 'cause somehow lyx or mac os x don't know how to find it (sh: ghostview: command not found) - maybe it's a path problem?

p.s.: like Oliver I also noticed that LyX doesn't remember Acrobat
Reader for previewing. Why is that?

Have a look in your .lyx/preferences file. Is it saved? Did you press 'Save' rather than 'Apply'...

I saved it and I found it in my .lyx/preferences file. Unfortunetely lyx forgets the setting vor Acrobat Reader after I shut it down. On the next start (via terminal / shell) there is an error saying:

LyX: Unknown tag `Acrobat' [around line 90 of file ~/.lyx/preferences]
LyX: Unknown tag `Reader' [around line 90 of file ~/.lyx/preferences]
LyX: Unknown tag `5.0""' [around line 91 of file ~/.lyx/preferences]

... and that was it with previewing in Acrobat Reader....
