For 1/, use a french bst (but then all refs will be with « et » instead of « and », even the english-reading refs) For 2, you may redefine the type field in the .bib file to be « Thèse de doctorat ». This a a limitation in bibTeX IMHO: the refs in a given language should be typed this language, but up to my knowledge, there is no widely spread mechanism allowing to set the document type (@TechReport e.g.) accordingly the the native language of the cited document (@RapportTechnique), and the bst files to cope with such a situation :-( I understand however that this is *really* a complicated problem, may be an open one :-) -- Jean-Pierre
