I can (although I've seen lyx adding it itself). Ok, I tried an xset +fp ..../xfonts, but the problem remains. The directory structure of lyx 1.2.3 looks the same, the fonts in the xfonts directory pointing to the same appropriate tetex fonts, so my guess is that it has something to do with the lyx display coding.
