???  You folks are way beyond me.  :D 

I simply put 

        \usepackage{framed}

in my preamble, and place (as ERT)

        \begin{framed}
and 
        \end{framed}

at the beginning/end of the text to be boxed.

Doesn't the framed.sty file have to be placed in a directory known to LaTeX
(e.g. /usr/local/share/texmf/tex/latex/framed on my Debian box), along with
a rerun of texhash?
