Hi, yeah, thanks, starting LyX from the console did the trick... ;-) Apparently LyX was looking for a file named usr/lib/ispell/french.hash. Looked there, found francais.hash, and renamed that to french.hash. Renamed francais.aff to french.aff as well, but dunno if that was necessary (or sensible). It's seems to be part of the spellchecker, though, so I reckon if LyX is looking for french.hash, the .aff file should be called french as well... Seems as if everything's working all right now. :-) So, thanks a lot for the help, Malte
