Rainer, I am not too sure what the ngerman dictionary is but maybe I can be of some help.
I am assuming that you are using ispell ? If you have the ngerman dictionary installed you can get LyX (ispell) to use this to check the spelling by edit->preferences->Lang Opts->Spell checker select use alternate language, and type in ngerman (If you have the ngerman dictionary installed, you should have a ngerman.hash file, all of my dictionaries are in /usr/lib/ispell/) I hope thats of some help Also why do you want an english dictionary instead of a british one ? Do you want american spelling ?
