I apologise if these are stupid questions / comments, I am new to TeX etc
[but I'm learning :-)]

I am using
steve@bartgs186:~$ dpkg -l | grep lyx
ii lyx 1.1.4-7 High Level Word Processor
on a Debian 2.2r3 box. I believe all the depedencies etc are installed ok
but I could be wrong [hence the problems :-)]

when I run lyx I get:
LyX: Unknown LyX function `buffer-update dvi' [around line 41 of file
/usr/bin/share/lyx/bind/cua.bind]
LyX: Unknown LyX function `buffer-update ps' [around line 42 of file
/usr/bin/share/lyx/bind/cua.bind]

then it loads ok. If I load the first template "Foils.lyx" it loads ok. If
I try "view dvi" I get lots of boxed errors. Hitting the first one I see:

"Undefined control sequence. \MyLogo{-\Lyx{} and \FoilTeX: What a team!-}
The control sequence at the end of the top line of your error message was
never def'ed. If you have misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'}, type ..... and so
on

Can I first make a suggestion that the error dialog let you select the
text so in future people can paste it into their MUA instead of having to
type it in?

I get these sorts of errors with every example and presumably its a simple
problem.

If I try view ps on a new document with just "hello" in it, I get
This is dvips(k) 5.86 Copyright 1999 Radical Eye Software
(www.radicaleye.com)
' TeX output 2001.10.25:1947' -> newfile.ps_tmp
<texc.pro>. [1]
sh: none: command not found

Also, I'd like to know how I could put my abstract in a single wide column
like title etc when I have a two col layout?

Thanks for your time

have fun,
