I have a fiction book, "The Key To Everyday Excellence", covering a 50
year span and jumping between many "presents" and many "back stories"
and didn't want my readers to get time vertigo. So I made a layout file
that contained text styles PlotDateChapter, which I inserted at the
start of every chapter, and PlotDateBody, which I inserted every time
the date changed. These text styles didn't print, but they contained a
date, and that date was printed in the page header. I'd say that was
the slickest thing I ever did with LaTeX.
