I don't have problems with the pdf file located in /tmp. It is just
the button with the two eyes (Ctrl + R). It used to open the pdf
file in /tmp in okular (in my case). This does currently not work.
I assume this is related to changes to KDE (debian testing). Maybe
it'll be fixed within the next days.
And the viewer setting still lists okular as the viewer? I just
discovered that, for whatever reason, the viewer for pdflatex was set
to xreader (correct) and the viewer for all other PDF formats was set
to evince (which I don't use).
It was empty. Now I have chosen
okular --unique "$$o#src:$$n $$f"
from a drop down menu. It still doesn't work. I also don't understand
"$$o#src:$$n $$f"
You're looking in the wrong place, I think. That string is in the Output
section and has to do with forward search (the ability to jump to
locations in the PDF corresponding to ones in the LyX file). You want to
look under File Handling> File Formats, and then choose PDF (pdflatex)
at the top. Is a viewer selected there?
You might also try running LyX from a terminal with "lyx -dbg files".
It's possible you will get some kind of error message. You should see
something like:
Format.cpp (706): Executing command: okular "file.pdf"
after compilation completes.
