How to find and replace the end-of-paragraph character?

I want to use the find&replace tool to find end-of-paragraphs and 
replace them with the space character, as in the attached picture.

Is there any way to do that?
I tried to select with the cursor an end-of-paragraph (¶) and then 
clicked on Ctrl+F to engage the find and replace tool. A character 
appears in the Find field. Clicking "Replace all" I get the message 
"Search string is empty".--
