Just to clarify: You can always export 2.4 files to the 2.3 format. Moreover, the last release of 2.3, which was 2.3.8, will read 2.4 files.
That said, we do not recommend trying to go back and forth between the two versions. It should work all right, but you will likely end up with a lot of ERT as newer features often have to be reverted that way.
