I have never had any problems with upgrading LyX and reading old
documents, except that tables in very old lyx files (1.0.x or maybe even
older) need to be converted to new format using some older lyx version.
On the other hand, I haven't used "advanced" lyx features, especially
I haven't made any "layout" files or such.
