you cannot do this. You have to export .lyx file into LaTeX
(File/Export/LaTeX) and then run 'latex newfile1.tex'.

Try Edit/Reconfigure. Then (after restarting LyX, of course) take a look
at Edit/Preferences/Converters/Formats. What do you have in DVI
departement? If nothing, try to run xdvi in command line -- what
happens?
