Adding local templates directory to dialog

I should know the answer to this but apparently have forgotten. Is there 
any way to modify the "New from Template" dialog so that local templates 
(in ~/.lyx/templates on Linux) are one click away? Alternatively, is 
there a way to add to the list of directory shortcuts on the left side 
of the dialog (currently "Computer" and my home directory)?
