LyX does foils pretty well but then again I've not tried for
transparencies with big images on either side of the heading...

foils.cls (extracted from foiltex.dtx) is not distributed with teTeX or
many other TeX systems anymore. You can get a copy from your local CTAN
site. Go to:
www.ctan.org/CTANfind.html
and search for foiltex. The result will then automatically go to what it
thinks is your nearest CTAN site to get the file. You'll want foiltex.dtx
and foiltex.ins.
Install this on your system -- some instructions are included in the LyX
Customization manual. Then start LyX and use Edit->Reconfigure or
Options->Reconfigure depending on the version of LyX you have.

Take a look at the stuff at:
http://www.devel.lyx.org/~rae/
there you'll find links to two tarballs of slides. Both were done using
the foils class (foiltex) and the CCP2000 slides use the fancy page style
to put a logo in the bottom left corner. Something similar to what you
are trying.
There is also a copy a layout file for using the pdfscreen class for
making slides somewhere in the archives. I'll see if I can find a copy in
my mailbox and forward it to you if you like.
