Good points and I don't disagree with your concerns. However, I think we might consider sacrificing some of the concerns like the ones you discuss above for the benefit of being as clear and as simple as possible. Can I at least conclude from your above comments that the proposed dialog would be better than automatically updating MiKTeX during the LyX installation without first asking the user? Scott
