A naïve user who is not well versed in MikTeX may start to wonder how one updates MikTeX.
I would find it useful that the dialog makes it possible to start MikTeX updating. -B From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Baris Erkus Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2018 11:33 To: LyX Users <[email protected]> Subject: RE: Important poll: would this dialog be confusing? My recommendation is to completely remove the LyX capability of updating MikTeX or switching to MikTeX updater. I always had an issue with this. Instead LyX can check the version of MikTeX and if it does not fit to certain requirements, it should give a warning smtg like: This version of LyX is compatible with MikTeX v?,? You have MikTeX v?.?. There may be an issue with LyX installation. It is recommended that you update your MikTeX to version v?.? before installing LyX. Hi Scott, I think it's a bit wordy How about: The LyX installer is going to update MiKTeX to the newest 2.9 version. If you use MiKTeX with other applications and do not want to update now, or want to perform the update yourself, cancel the LyX installation. Cancel Continue I might even be tempted to leave the "or want to perform the update yourself" out, if they are smart enough to update miktex themselves, then smart enough to to cancel if want to update themselves. Dear all, I would appreciate your help on an issue that is holding up the release of LyX 2.3.0. We are considering to add the following dialog at the beginning of the LyX 2.3.0 Windows installer: The LyX installer is going to update MiKTeX to the newest 2.9 version. If you do not use MiKTeX with applications other than LyX, you likely want to choose "Continue". If you do use MiKTeX with other applications and do not want to update it now, or want to perform the update yourself, you can cancel the LyX installation now. Cancel Continue Do you think this dialog would be confusing for the average user? Thanks for your feedback, Scott Email sent using Optus Webmail
