Hello there,

I have search on the previous posts and I have not found the solution to my
problem. However, I'm a new user and may be I didn't search properly or
there are other places to search for help. My appologies in advance if I
the solution is around and I didn't find it.

I have been using Lyx for two years in two desktops with windows 7
installed. So far, documents are perfectly compatible between these two
computers. Now I am travelling and have decided to install the program in
an old laptop working with windowsXP. Lyx on the laptop run ok and I could
open with the Lyx laptop any file written on the desktops with Lyx but not
the other way around: when wrote something in the Lyx laptop, that file
couldnt be open with the desktops. I thought there was a problem of
compatibility and I decided to reinstall it to see if the new installation
solves the compatibility problem. Then, I uninstalled Lyx first and
downloaded newly the file to install it. But after the installation program
looks for updates in the MiKTeX library, a window pops up saying the has
been an error. Specifically, the error message says something like the
following:

windows API Error 126: can't find the specified module

dllName="C:\Archivos de Programa\MiKTeX
2.9\miktex/bin\MiKTeX209-core-PS.dll"

After clicking the accept button on the windows error message, the
installation goes on but when opening Lyx to use it, windows error messages
pop up saying the program is not going to work because it cannot find text
types. And when I try to open any new document from the list of pre
installed styles, the program complains saying that it cannot find the
proper module.

Yes, I have notice that there is a / instead of \ in the path describing
the location of the dll file. I guess that the instalation program is
saying Lyx to find the dll file in a place that is not a well defined
directory. Am I right? Is there any solution? Thanks in advance to all the
community.

I tried to reinstall Lyx again several times but the same error message
arises. I have also tried to uninstall Lyx, install MiKTeX first and then
install Lyx on top of it. Then, Lyx recognizes that MiKTex is installed,
but the same error appears when it looks for MiKTeX updates. If I ask Lyx
not to look for MiKTeX updates, the installation finishes withouth sending
any error but the error comes up when trying to load any file, even one of
the example styles included in Lyx.

PS: I am a computer dummy. Please, if you have any suggestion, try to
describe it as if you are to explain it to a 10 years old child.
