Thanks for your help but I have examined the manual and the experiences I am trying to discuss do not match the description there.
I believe that the movement to the end and then after many editing actions, the return to the locations I had set previously, using the graphical interface provided, demonstrates the problem experienced. I had also tried to set the location in the manner you suggested but this had also failed to produce the intended effect.
