Ok, I have: "try a different font."
And I have "/hline" (would this not put a line all the way accross the page?)
I wanted a blank between two words, along the lines of what Mr. Toivonon once
needed for a signature, as in XXX____XXX.
The backasswards temporary solution I found was to use protected spaces and
underscore them from the Format->Character menu. Not the most elegant.
I could use a different font... but should I have to? This is something
(shudder) Word does automagically in any font.
