Hi!

The documentation for the algorithm packacke is indeed sparse. But there
is, in fact, a postscript or latex file somewhere that describes all the
commands available in the algorithm environment. I forgot where I found
it -- probably somewhere under the latex doc tree, or in the AMS
documentation. In any case, it provides all the details. It isn't
in the LyX documentation, nor should it be -- the algorithm package
is developed for latex. LyX only allows easy access to it.

To use the commands, you'll have to insert them in LyX in TeX mode.
They work beautifly: I've done my PhD thesis using them.
