What exactly has to be described more exactly in the documentation?

You have to edit both batch files to reflect your systems configuration in
any case! Another possible solution is: starting the X-server manually and
commenting the respective line in the RUNLYX.BAT file. If all runs well you
then can try to uncomment that line and change the path and program of the
X-server to the one you are using! (Xwin32 is not necessary. Some people
are using Exceed or other commercial versions. The only X-Server which can't
be used is MIX. But I don't know why?)

IMHO all necessary steps are described in detail on the LyX/Win32 page! Can
you explain where you have installed which files and what is going wrong in
detail!

There are many users outside most of them starting without any problem as I
can see/read in the mails that reached me in the past! But it would be nice
and interesting to get that information and maybe I can rewrite my page
because I think most of the problems are due to the fact that the
documentation make assumptions about the knowledge of UNIX which most
M$-users don't have 8(
