Are you sure?
I use Suse 6.2 (kernel 2.2.10) and rpm's work fine. I installed
lyx-1.1.4fix3 (in fact I upgraded an older version using the command 'rpm
-Uvh --nodeps', the nodeps because of a problem with the tetex package I
choose to ignore :)).
