Hi Mike, Since the new approach (class change + reset to defaults) is now in and will probably stay there, I tried to modify the sections in the User Guide on this topic. AFAICS, it's Section 2.3 "Basic LyX Setup" (Layout -> Save Settings as Class Defaults has been moved to the Document popup) and 3.1.2.2 "Selecting a Class". You will find this in on of the attached lyxfiles. Feel free to correct my lousy English ;-) Furthermore, I attached the modified section on ligatures (3.7.3) again, this time as a lyxfile. Please modify this section in the User Guide, since LyX 1.2.0 will introduce a new Special Character to break ligatures and the recommendation to use '\/' for breaking ligatures in the User Guide is not very good, as the LaTeX gurus told me.
