The problem exists only under Windows.

It is maybe acrobat reader only, but it is even worse under linux.
That is to say:

1. under windows: you are not allowed to view if acrobat reader is
previewing a previous version. (You at least get an error message).

2. under linux: you are allowed to view, and the file has actually
been re-generated, but acrobat reader does not switch to the newer
version. This is, in my opinion, even worse.
Sure - and this is a good argument against acrobat. It is different.

I still think using different temp files is a good solution, I do not
see a good counter-argument till now.
Using the same file everytine works fine with the xpdf reader.
There is no acrobat on non-intel linux anyway, so, having
an opteron at home I prefer xpdf everywhere. And having xpdf
reload the pdf-file is much faster than re-running acrobat anyway.

But surely the problem is easily solvable by a script - those who
wants acrobat for some reason can have a script that renames
the file and then invoke the acrobat executable. This trick
works with windows as well as linux, and of course such scripts
could be distributed with lyx.
