Installing the packages could last up to 15 minutes; in this time the user get no response what is currently happening: The internet connections is under full use and LyX isn't started. To avoid this it would be cool if LyX displays the printout of configure.py as long as it runs in an appearing console window - this was the case with the old configure script.
I see what you are saying, but stdout will be hidden with the new releases so there is even no way to turn on that black command window. The solution, as far as I can see, is expanding the current message box (which will be displayed at the end of configuration) and open a dialog with the output (with ok disabled) and tells the user configure is completed (ok enabled) when configuration is done. With stdout permanently hidden, I can see this as a general dialog with stdout output. I do not know how much work this involves. I will have a look later. Bo
