If 10G is all you can spare on lyx when the cheapest disks out there
is 200G then I am not so sure. (And I use a laptop and know that this
is not the case there)

_But_ there are ways to work that make you not use that much local
disk... but it will mean more network traffic and perhaps a more
cumbersome work practise.
