Here are my numbers using the userguide (after all images have been
loaded, same window and font dimensions):

lyx-qt3-Q../Win: 23 seconds
lyx-qt4.1.3-mingw: 52 seconds (Abdel's version)
lyx-qt3-cygwin-X11: 25 seconds
lyx-qt3-linux-X11: 21 seconds (debian testing)

So, this is document-dependent. Using a document with a lot of
equations and figures, lyx-qt3-cygwin-X11 is three times faster
than lyx-qt3-Q../Win which, in turn, is about two times faster
than lyx-qt4.1.3-mingw.

I can't explain the difference between 38 and 52 seconds when
using lyx-qt4.1.3-mingw. I have Win2k, whereas Abdel has WinXP,
if that matters.
