Well, it is not so for me. Only after I install the fonts in
Resources/fonts I have back greek letters and company...

I have also discovered that the new font stuff also affects a cygwin
build using Qt/Win, as in that case Q_WS_WIN is also defined.
So I experimented a bit.

When I don't have /usr/local/share/lyx/fonts, greek letters and special
symbols are missing.

When I put the fonts in /usr/local/share/lyx/fonts, all is ok. 

After all, the cygwin LyX with Qt/Win is not that much different from
the full native version...

LyX/X11 is not affected by the font stuff.
