1. It installed a bunch of Aspell files to C:\Program Files\Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60. I already had Aspell installed (at C:\Aspell). I thought that Aspell *had* to be installed to C:\Aspell. Has this changed?

The Aspell installer, which defaults to C:\Aspell, is used to install the Aspell files. If you have previously installed Aspell in C:\Program Files\Aspell and moved the files manually, the path in your registry is wrong.

I'll create a new Aspell installer with a command line switch to force it to C:\Aspell.

2. When downloading the Aspell dictionaries, I got messages that the installer was unable to make a connection, and did I want to try again. Each time, the second attempt worked fine. The connection failure messages came up so quickly, I wonder if perhaps the installer needs a programmed wait to give servers more time to respond?

What is the error message? Do you have any special firewall or proxy servers?

3. I had your installer download English and German dictionaries. The English dictionary installed fine. The German dictionary appeared to unpack correctly, but then your installer issued a message saying that the German dictionary had not fully installed, and did I want to try again. I opted for a second attempt, and this time watched the details. The installer for the German dictionary issued a message saying it was done, but your installer again said it had failed. This time I opted to continue. (Boy, there has got to be a way to say that without using the root "install" every third word! :-)

This is related to issue 1. If the Aspell path in the registry is wrong the dictionaries will also be installed in the wrong location.

4. LyX 1.4.svn appeared to configure correctly, and it found my 1.4.1 preferences, but the spellchecker is disabled. Is this a known bug? The spellchecker still works in 1.3.7 and 1.4.1.

I think this is also related to your other Aspell issues.
