Sadly, it's still the case, after fixing the registry and reinstalling LyX, that spell checking is disabled (the Tools menu entry is grayed out, and F7 generates a "command disabled" status message). Aspell must be installed correctly, since it works with both LyX 1.3.7 and LyX 1.4.1 (including the German dictionaries).

You are right, something went wrong during the compilation of the latest binaries. I'll upload a fixed version later today.

By the way, I noticed a couple of things when I uninstalled 1.4svn. First, the installer creates only a program menu entry for LyX itself -- no entry for the uninstall command. (Angus's installers created a folder for LyX, with links to both LyX and the uninstall executable). So I used Add/Remove Programs to uninstall it.

That's how it should be. The start menu should not contain links to uninstallers.

That apparently did not do a complete job, because when I reran the installer, it said that LyX 1.4svn date 20060531 was already installed (I checked the box to overwrite the installation), and it remembered the directory name I'd used the first time.

That is indeed a bug. Will be fixed.
