And again - no path to the msys stuff.
Added that temporarily, ran "sh configure" and a lot of things happened.
So lyx starts, but no view->dvi, no view->pdf, no printing.
And no time to figure it out.

No View->DVI is odd. I assume your sister uses MiKTeX (?). If so, is the MiKTeX bin directory on the system path? If no, then latex was probably not found (although you did not say anything about missing classes). If yes, is yap in the bin directory? (It should be.)

No View->PDF is typical. Most likely your sister uses Acrobat Reader. The configuration script looks for acrord32.exe (the executable), but can only find it if it is on the system command path. The AR installer does not add it to the command path -- no real need, I suppose, since you generally use either a shortcut or a file association to start it.

No printing is also typical. Printing under Windows is apparently a bit of an adventure. (I always print from either Yap or AR, so I've never bothered to set it up.) There have been some posts on the user list about it. Might be nice if someone repeated the highlights on the wiki. IIRC, the most common approach involves writing a batch file. And maybe sacrificing something small and furry to the Gods of Redmond.
