Did not try this, instead I followed Stephen's suggestion to check other installs of aspell or lyx, so I came back to an entirely\ fresh lyx install on XP: - check other aspell installations : none - check other lyx installatons: yes (Ruurds 1.3.5 in C:\Proggies), deleted - check personal lyx dirs: yes, deleted - uninstal/reinstall lyx-1.3.6-17: spellchecker works as expected :-) A similar test on 2000 gave the same result: I'm not quite sure about the need to delete Ruurd's 1.3.5 port, but clearly uninstall is needed (I guess because the original 1.3.6 installs were done without Aspell installed). As install over previous versions seemed to work, I have been lazy :-( sorry, but maybe a requirement to uninstall first would be welcome in the installer ? It takes a few seconds to perform. Thnks for the suggestions. Regards -- Jean-Pierre
