I don't think there's a choice for DocBook SGML. As a last resort they could specify "allowedchars=all" but if I understood you correctly, they would have to do some heavy SGML declaration hacking to get their processor to eat this IDs. For DocBook XML I'm playing with the idea to _only_ mangle special chars from the first 128 ASCII positions (except -._: of course). This will not be perfect as the user could use illegal chars from the upper range, but they are unlikely to mess up further processing. UTF-8 might be a problem, though. I don't think that can be changed until LyX has full Unicode support. :-( > PS. That's no accusation.
