  Unicode, what else? ;-)
  The most probable encoding being UTF-8.

  The support for it in python is excelent.

from Unicode to that encoding. One line again.

  And the downside of the current approach is that it need to update those
files everytime you update lyx. Why don't leave that to lyx2lyx?
