I never had problems with lyx on SuSE 8.1 after the compiler update (apart from known bugs). I suspect the root of your problems is your mixture of gcc, qt and lyx versions. You will save yourself a lot of trouble if you just upgrade your distribution as a whole instead of trying to reassemble it on your own from source. Georg
