You can use the configure option --with-extra-prefix like I did:

        --with-extra-prefix=/home/mv/xforms-cvs/build/test-install

when the flimage library objects are in 
/home/mv/xforms-cvs/build/test-install/lib. So for you this would be

        --with-extra-prefix=/usr/X11R6

I'm a bit surprised it didn't find libflimage.so.1 if it really is in
/usr/X11R6/lib/. Does it really exist there? And is /usr/X11R6/lib
listed in /etc/ld.so.conf?
