I think this is not a good idea. IMHO the common user typically opens an inset to have a look at its content. Afterwards, he wants to close it again (and instantly). It would be a great nuissance if he had to press CTRL-I twice (or even three times, depending on the number of display modes) for that purpose.

...so as to be able to postpone this chore a little.
