Well, you must call this code FROM somewhere. If this somewhere is a class 
method, does the class have access to a BufferView* returned by

buffer.h:       BufferView * getUser() const;
BufferView_pimpl.h:     BufferView * bv_;
funcrequest.h:  BufferView * view() const;
lyxfunc.h:      BufferView * view() const;
lyxtext.h:              BufferView * bv;
