No, that applies only to the latter, and there's a clearer way of doing
it. The former is not actually needed in any places (when latex is done
in the background, we /then/ need to consider stuff, but we certainly
don't now)

I do not intend to change behaviour, but I am dead against introducing
brokenness for no good reason.

Mainly because I'm the sucker who'll end up maintaining it and/or
rewriting it at some point
